The Links module displays a list of hyperlinks to any page, image or file on your website; or to a file, image or page on another website.

Use what you learned in Add Module to Page to add a new Links Module to your Page.

Step By Step: Add a New Link

Your Module is initially created with no content.  Only the empty Container is visible, with its Title and Action Buttons visible.

1.   Click the Add Link button (or select Add Link from the Module Actions Menu).

On the Edit Links page you'll see that there are several fields you can fill out plus the same Link Type control and options you've seen on many other modules.

2.  Place your cursor in the Title field and enter a short phrase for your link text.  This is the value that will comprise the actual link.

3.   Select a Link Type for your Link and fill in the appropriate information.  You can specify a link to a website, a page on your own website or to a file on your website (such as an image or a PDF document).

4.   (Optional Step) Select from a number of available options for the link.

If you select Tracking, you'll be able to check how many times the link has been clicked.  If you select Logging, you'll be able to tell who clicked the link (if the website visitor was logged in).  And if you select New Window, your link will cause a new browser window to be opened for the link.

6.   (Optional Step) Specify a description for your Link.  A description will

7.   (Optional Step) Include a View Order for sorting your Links.  By default, they will be sorted in the same order that you create them.

8.   When you have finished, be sure to click Update at the bottom of the page to save your changes.  This is how your updated module would look to a website visitor.

But this is just the default look for a Links module... plain with just a hyperlink on the title text.  There are a few display options available.

Step By Step: Display Options

The Links module has a few Display Options which let you change how it looks.  In order to better illustrate how these settings will change your modules appearance, this example will use a module that has added a few extra links already.

1.   Click the Settings button (or select Settings from the Module Actions Menu).

Or...

2.   On the Module Settings page, scroll down to Links Settings and click the button to expand the section.  This will show you all the available Links module options (options in the other portions of this page are general module options).

3.   (Optional Step) Select Dropdown as the Control Type and then click Update at the bottom of the page.  This changes your Links to dropdown selector and a Go button (as illustrated below).

4.   (Optional Step) Select Horizontal as the List Display Format (this only has an effect on your module when Control Type is List... so change that too) and then click Update at the bottom of the page.  This changes your Links to a horizontal display (as illustrated below).

5.   (Optional Step) Select Yes for Display Info Link and then click Update at the bottom of the page.  This changes the way your description is displayed.

Description is normally displayed as a "tooltip".  A tooltip is displayed when the mouse hovers over the link.

Description is optionally displayed with a "more" link which (when clicked) displays the description on the page.
