Integrating an Existing POP3 Email Account with BlackBerry

In order to use your BlackBerry to retrieve messages from email accounts on Alentus POP3 mail servers, you will need to setup a forwarding account using the BlackBerry Internet Service website, which is a service operated by BlackBerry (Research In Motion Limited). The exact web address of the BlackBerry Internet Service depends on your wireless service provider. To locate the address of your service providerís BlackBerry Internet Service website, click the following link and then select your wireless provider from the list at the bottom of the page:

You should also be able to consult your wireless service provider's documentation for more information on accessing the BlackBerry Internet Service website.

Integrating An Alentus-hosted Email Account

To setup an Alentus-hosted email account for retrieval with your BlackBerry, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect to the BlackBerry Internet Service website and log in to your BlackBerry account. Note: If you are a new user and have not setup a BlackBerry Internet Service account, you will need to create a new account by following the instructions on the login screen.

  2. On the navigation bar, click Profile.

  3. Under Email Accounts, click the hyperlink other email accounts

  4. Click the Add Account button.

  5. Type in the full email address (eg. me@mydomain.com), user name, and password in the appropriate fields and click Submit. Note that the "Email Address" and "User Name" fields should both contain the full information for your email account, ie. they need to contain your domain name and they should be identical.

    If you see the message "Your email account has been successfully set up," the integration is complete. The integrated account is listed with a green check mark in the Status column (on the far right). New email messages will begin appearing on the handheld from your integrated email account.

    If you see the message "We were unable to configure this mailbox," it is likely the result of one of the following:

    • The integration failed because you entered the wrong account information. Repeat the process.
    • The integration is not complete because you must enter additional information. Comlete the steps in the following section.

Provide Additional Information

  • Under Internet Service Provider Email, select the option for I use an email client such as Outlook™, Outlook Express™, Netscape®, Eudora®.

  • Click Submit.

  • Type your email server name (eg. mail.mydomain.com) and port number (110).

  • Verify your email address, user name, and password.

  • Select one of the following options:

  • Leave messages on mail server (default setting)

  • Utilize SSL

  • Click Submit.

If you see the message “Your email account has been successfully set up,” the integration is complete. The integrated account is listed with a green check mark in the Status column (on the far right). New email messages will begin appearing on the handheld from your integrated POP email account.

If you see the message “We were unable to configure this mailbox,” the integration likely failed because:

  • You entered the wrong account information. Repeat the process.
  • There is a temporary connection problem between the BlackBerry Internet Service website or the Alentus mail server. Try integrating your account later.
